Merlins Bridge began their defence of the Pembrokeshire Senior Cup in style on Saturday racking up 10 goals in a comfortable victory over third division side Camrose.

Adam Hawkins and Nathan Greene both bagged four each, while others came from Peter Thomas and Dai Davies.

Last year’s beaten finalists Carew also got their campaign up and running with a slightly closer victory against Tenby, who are now plying their trade in division four.

The Seasiders, who have started the season well, gave a good account of themselves, but could not handle the scoring power of Sam Christopher who grabbed a hat-trick, with Jordan?Richards also getting on the scoresheet as Carew registered a 4-0 win.

Biggest winners of the day, though, were Clarbeston Road who hit the back of the net 14 times against unlucky Letterston, while also in double figures were Pennar Robins, who chalked up 10 against Pendine without reply.

Goals for the high-flying Robins came from Connor Roberts and Josh Dearsley, who each finished with a hat-trick, Ceri Grffiths, Tom Grimwood, Dan Kitts and Luke Phillips.

Things were slightly more even in the three division one encounters played on the day, with St. Clears and Narberth finishing with honours even in a 1-1 draw, William Evans netting for the Saints and Chris Brown replying for the Bluebirds.

Chris Milward also scored one for Saundersfoot, but it was not enough to earn them victory against Monkton?Swifts who responded with three of their own from Chris Richards, Dan?Scourfield and Dylan Davies.

And it was a similar result at Neyland, where the home side found Fishguard Sports just too hot to handle.

Kilgetty continued their fine start to the season in division two as they made it three wins out of three with a 3-1 victory against Hakin United’s second string, Josh Bevan, Tom Mansbridge and Jordan Gorman being the men on target.

Lawrenny also bagged three goals without reply at St. Ishmaels, Owen James netting a brace of them and Dean Morris firing home the other.

Another man to get a couple was Adam Muskett, who helped Carew Seconds to a 2-1 victory over Fishguard Sports Seconds in division three.

That was bettered by Jake Campbell, though, as he struck three times for Pembroke Boro in their 7-4 success against Goodwick United Seconds, Stuart Slater and Phil John grabbing a brace apiece to complete the scoring for the home side.

Like their first team, Narberth Seconds were also involved in a tight affair in division four, their match against Haverfordwest?Cricket Club Seconds also finishing with honours even.

The two sides shared six goals in an entertaining clash, with Narberth’s three strikes being registered by Callum Phillips, Rhys Hughes and Medhi Jegham.

St. Florence also had to settle for a share of the spoils when they entertained Camrose Seconds, Jake Webster claiming both their goals in a 2-2 draw.

Biggest winners in division five were Saundersfoot Sports Seconds, who put Lawrenny Seconds to the sword thanks to goals from Nathan?Owen (2), Tom Harries and Billy Umanee, with the home side netting only one in reply.FixturesSenior Cup, first round (1.45 pm kick-off): Fishguard Sports v Broad Haven; Herbrandston v St Ishmaels; Johnston v Angle; Kilgetty v Lawrenny; Milford United v Saundersfoot Sports; Narberth v St Florence; Neyland v Monkton Swifts; Pembroke Boro v Cosheston.Division One: Goodwick United v Clarbeston Road; Hakin United v Carew; Merlins Bridge v Pennar Robins.Division Two: Pennar Robins II v Hundleton; Solva v Hakin United II.Division Three: Carew II v Goodwick United II; Clarbeston Road II v Fishguard Sports II; Haverfordwest CC v Milford Athletic; Letterston v Monkton?Swifts II; Pendine v Camrose.Division Four: Broad Haven II v Narberth II; Pennar Robins III v Haverfordwest CC II; St Clears II v Milford United II; St Ishmaels II v Neyland II; Tenby v Camrose II.Division Five: Carew III v Johnston II; Hundleton II v Lawrenny II; Milford Athletic II v Kilgetty II; Newport Tigers v Herbrandston II; Saundersfoot Sports II v Pembroke Boro II.
