Fifteen young goalkeepers received certificates and individual assessments from Daniel Evans, Welsh Under 19s goalkeeper, at the end of a nine week intensive course held in Tenby recently.

Players aged from seven -14 years took part in a course of instruction based on enjoyment, consistency, concentration and ambition, as well as a wide range of technical skills.

Another aim was to prepare goalkeepers to take part in trials which would take them above their usual club level of play.

Several goalkeepers have been successful in County Schools, FAW West Wales Development Centre and Welsh Premier League Academy trials, although all participants have shown a marked improvement through their dedication and effort.

A further course is planned for September in Tenby; details to be announced by Pembrokeshire Schools Football Association.

The course was run by Bernard Steer in conjunction with Tenby AFC who loaned their excellent facilities.

Bernard Steer is an FAW B licence goalkeeper coach with coaching experience at Aston Villa and Birmingham City Centres of Excellence, Halesowen Town FC, and Haverfordwest County Football Academy. He played for Bristol City in the FA Youth Cup and represented FAW South Academies, both as assistant manager and goalkeeper coach in 2013 and 2015.
