Hook 301-2

An experienced Hook team recorded their third win of the season against a young Kilgetty side playing their first match.

Batting first, Kilgetty lost wickets at regular intervals against a very accurate Hook bowling attack. There were still some excellent batting performances for Kilgetty, with Kiaran Sine scoring 15 (three 4s) and Olly Badham with 11 (two 4s).

There were two wickets apiece for Ollie Rees and Oscar Willington and one wicket for Oliver Haltam, plus a run out from William Harries.

Batting second, Hook lost a couple of early wickets to Euan Gottswaltz and Olly Badham, but their more experienced batsmen proved the difference, with Liam Miller scoring a hard hitting 31 (six 4s), Rhys Phelps an excellent 20 (five 4s) , Oscar Willington 10 (one 4) and Oliver Haltam 6 (one 4).

Haverfordwest 236 for 5 lost to Cleddau Colts 273

for 0 by 37 runs

The newly-formed Cleddau Colts made their league debut, the team comprising players from both Llangwm and Hook. Thanks go to Haverfordwest CC for agreeing to host what should have been an away fixture for them.

The Colts batted first and achieved the very rare and notable feat of not losing a single wicket in their innings. Toby Price and Charlie Kelly scored eight each, Dylan Rowles and Ned Wigmore-Rees scoring seven each and Jack Phillips and Callum Nutty five each.

The Haverfordwest guys bowled some really good overs, despite not taking a wicket, notably Osian Williams, George Twigg and Luke Skelhorn.

In reply, Osian Williams led the batting effort with an excellent 12 runs, Luke Skelhorn scoring five.

On the bowling front for the Colts, Jack Thomas and Sonny Zipperlen were both really unlucky not to take wickets. Ned Wigmore-Rees and Callum Nutty took a wicket apiece, but it was Kieran Sinclair who stole the show, taking three wickets in one over.

An excellent debut for the Colts and a great game of cricket enjoyed by all.

Hook 20 for 1 v

Haverfordwest 97 for 3 - match abandoned

A few overs into the second innings, the decision was taken to abandon the match due to ground, weather and light conditions being unfavourable and presenting a foreseeable risk to the young players. It brought an early end to a good competitive match.

Haverfordwest batted first and set a really good total of 98 for 3. Openers Will Phillips, 25 retired ,and Reuben Whitehead, 28 retired, both batted very well, patiently pushing singles and then putting the bad ball away to the boundary. Evan Watts scored nine before being out to a smart catch in the deep. ‘Mr Extras’ contributed 31 to the final total.

For Hook, Harry Makepeace bowled very well upfront with figures of 3-2-5-0. But it was young Liam Miller who did the damage with excellent figures of 3-1-9-3 with his leg spin.

In reply, Hook reached 20 for 1 from 4.4 overs before conditions deteriorated, with Lewis Miller looking well placed on eight not out.

A disappointing end to what promised to be a good and competitive match. However, the safety of young players must always be the foremost priority.
