The in-form captain, who only the day before scored a first division hundred to lead his team to an astonishing victory over Llangwm said they were 50 or 60 runs short in their quest to win the title since for the first time since 1991.
They held Neyland to 124 in their first innings before securing an interval lead of 11 runs after Hardy struck 39 and Kurtis Marsh 37.
That was the end of the good times for Kilgetty however as Neyland came out with all guns blazing in the second innings and they had the rub of the green too setting Kilgetty 154 to win.
Paul Murray scored 56 for Neyland and Nick Koomen 47, Murray having a let off when Kilgetty thought they had bowled him, only for the umpires to rule that keeper Ian Poole had dismissed the bails with his gloves.
“A couple fo decisions went against us,” said Hardy diplomatically. “Had they gone our way things would have been different, but I can’t take anything away from Neyland, they took their chance against us and we let it slip.
“We’re a growing team though and if we can stay together we’ll be a force to be reckoned with in a few years time.
“Fingers crossed we’ll develop as they get older and show just how good we are.”
Kilgetty were dismissed for just 86 in their second innings, however they showed just how good they are the day before when overcoming Llangwm’s 297-5 to win by eight wickets.
The visitors to Pill Parks scored 303-2 in reply with Kurtis Marsh hitting 113 not out, Ross Hardy 106 (and taking 3-56) while Toby Poole hit 43 not out.
The win helps their chances of survival in division one opening up a 37 point lead over second from bottom Burton.
If it’s exciting at the bottom then it’s even better at the top with Cresselly going into the weekend’s fixture against Neyland as division leaders. They ended the day one place below after Neyland beat them by four wickets, overcoming Cresselly’s 170-9 for the loss of just six wickets.
Simon Cole top scored for Cresselly with 77.
Lawrenny remain in fifth spot following a close two wicket win over Burton who batted first and scored 142 all ot. Brad McDermott Jenkins took 3-31
In reply, Steve Campbell scored 44 and Steve Leis 71 to see their team home.
A win for Whitland too after they overcame St Ishmaels away, the Borderers scoring 310-7 and bowling the hosts out for 196.
Star of the show was Whitland’s Matthew Davies after he hit 101 not out and took 2-50. Steffan James was also in form scoring 43 and taking 3-34.
There was no surprise at Stackpole as Carew won easily against the Lilies, prevailing by 85 runs.
The Rooks raced to 213 all out with Ian Sefton hitting 41 and Ceri Brace 33 not out while Marcus Adie took three wickets for the hosts.
He hit 27 in reply too and George Smith 33 but Tom Davies’ 3-42 and Shaun Whitfield’s 3-9 helped Carew win.
Cresselly drew with Llechryd who scored 252-4 at home against the Doves. Cresselly hit 208-8 in reply Phil Williams hitting 47 and Billy Kinnear 46.
A surprise at Narberth after the hosts lost to Haverfordwest seconds.
Narberth struck 183-8 thanks to Richie Adams’ 81, Dan Hughes’ 33 and Lewis Hough’s 32 but despite Matthew Johns taking 4-37 victory went with the visitors.
A win for Saundersfoot though after they beat Hook by 62 runs.
Saundersfoot batted first and scored 186-9 thanks to Phil Jones’s 39 and Jon Mansbridge’s 27.
Hook were they all out for 124 after Tom Mansbridge took 3-39 and Neil Powling 4-2.
Barry Evans may be a veteran in cricketing terms but where would Pembroke be without him? The obdurate left hander scored 83 against Whitland seconds while Jack Harries took 6-60 and scored 47 together with Phil Hay who scored 42 as Pembroke set the home team 225 to win.
They were all out for 118 as Harries took control, Hywel Bevan hitting an unbeaten 50 for them.
Lamphey’s freefall continues after the Stags lost their fifth game in a row following a four-wicket defeat at Carew.
Lamphey batted first with James Skeels hitting 54 and Nick Johnson 30. In reply, Carew hit 176 thanks to Nick Davies’s 51 and Scott Richards’s 96 not out. Andrew Skeels took three wickets for the visitors.
Lawrenny seconds went down to Narberth seconds by seven wickets.
Lawrenny struck 142 all out, Adrian Harries hitting 30 and Hugh Griffiths 28.
Davy Johns hit 64 not out for Narberth in reply and he took 5-14 in Lawrenny’s innings while his father Mike struck an unbeaten 51 to seal the win. Richard Howell took 3-38.
Pembroke Dock nearly lost their second game in succession after Neyland seconds gave them a scare but they hung on to win by two wickets.
Neyland were all out for 150 with Geraint Blair taking 4-27 while Luke Murray hit 40 in reply to edge them over the line.
Hundleton won their first game of the season beating Burton seconds by 80 runs. Jonathan Williams inspired them to the win hitting 118 while Steve Williams struck 64 not out in their 238-4.
Burton were dismissed for 158 in reply as Paul Fox and Chris Stapleton shared six wickets.
High scoring Laugharne secured a winning draw at home to Llangwm seconds hitting 243-5 against Llangwm’s 171-8.
Kevin Pearce hit 89 for the hosts and Callum Collins-Davies 74.
Meanwhile in division five, Steve Alford struck a magnificent 109 for Pembroke Dock seconds in their win over Neyland thirds.
His innings helped the hosts score 248-7 against the visitors who were all out for 104 in reply.
Ben Callen took 4-13 for the Dock in Neyland’s reply.
Pembroke seconds lost to Cresselly thirds by 24 runs after Cresselly hit 192-8. Mark Meyrick hit 66 not out for Cresselly and Lyn Richards 31 while Jamie Goldsworthy struck 33.
In reply, Pembroke finished on 168-8 after Adie Phillips hit 57.
Stackpole seconds failed to raise a side against Kilgetty seconds while carew thirds had an easy win over their counterparts from Whitland winning by seven wickets.
Whitland scored 104 all out and Carew hit 106-3 in reply.
Luke Hicks struck 54 for the Rooks while Rhys Canton, Rhys Grigg and Jeremy Griffiths all took a brace of wickets.
