Haverfordwest’s grip on the division one title strengthened over the weekend after they beat Whitland by six wickets.

The Borderers made the trip west to take on the Town and started brightly when batting first as Dylan Blain and Paul Davies put on 77 for the first wicket before Blain fell for 50 having scored six 4’s and one 6.

Davies continued in his attractive way, caressing 14 more in his fine knock of 64 which included eight 4s and a 6, but despite Iestyn Scourfield’s 36 (5x4) no other batsmen could get going and they were dismissed for 157.

Ben Field wasted no time in getting the runs, hitting a majestic 76 as the hosts romped home for their 12th win of the season.

Harry Thomas has shown promise with the bat during his time with Cresselly and now he has shown it with the ball too as his 6-50 helped skittle Llangwm for 137. In reply Adam Chandler, entertained with yet another classy knock as he eased himself to 71 not out to lead his team home by seven wickets.

Lawrenny provided the shock of the day as they easily accounted for last year’s champions Neyland. Prior to the match, had Gregg Miller’s team won they would have put pressure on Haverfordwest for the league title on the last game of the season yet they were dismissed for just 108 in reply to the Gavenyards’ 172 all out.

Earlier, Steve Lewis struck 40, James Buckle 36 and Rob Williams 47 in the home team’s innings while Williams took 1-36 in reply alongside Jamie Lewis’ 3-25 and Alistair Edwards’ 4-12 to secure a famous win.

Easiest win of the day went to Carew as they bowled St Ishmaels out for just 61 after Neil Gregory took 5-34 and Rhys Davies 2-8. In reply Tom Scourfield struck 27 and James Hinchcliffe and unbeaten 17.

In division two, Narberth secured promotion back to division one with a 47 run win at Saundersfoot. Batting first, Richie Adams’ 72, Ben Hughes’ 55 and Kamal Sharma’s unbeaten 30 helped them post 194-6 while in return, the hosts were all out for 147 as Hughes took 3-35, Ben Quartermaine 3-29 and Jordan Howell 2-44. For Saundersfoot Jon Mansbridge took 3-34 and Josh Samuel 1-33.

Kilgetty won at Hook by just nine runs after the home side fell agonisingly short of the visitors’ 140-9.

Peter Hall struck 41 against his old club while Ross Hardy hit 33 and Ian Poole 26 in their total. In reply, Grant Hardy bowled brilliantly to take 5-21 while Anthony Bevan took 2-31 to complete an exhilarating win.

There was no game for Cresselly seconds after Camrose failed to raise a side again.

Whitland seconds went down by seven wickets at home to Pembroke after the hosts were all out for 144.

Scott Newton scored 40 and Connor Bowen 19 while Paul Webb took 1-37 in the reply. For Pembroke, Billy Wood took 4-15, Jack Harries 2-33 and Andrew Hay 2-30 while the evergreen and consistent Barry Evans hit 50, Phil Hay 49 and Paul White 22.

Carew seconds all but secured the title of division three after they beat Neyland seconds by three wickets. Neyland scored 146-8 with Aled Davies, Max Brindley, Haydn Shapcott and Lewis hicks all taking two wickets apiece while in reply, Dafydd Bevan hit 31, Shapcott 35, Hicks 21 and Jacob Knox 21.

Pembroke Dock slipped closer to relegation after defeat at home to Crymych. The Dock were all out for 118 with Luke Murray hitting 31 while in reply John Cumani took 6-22 as the Mountain Men snuck over the line.

Hundleton lost to Herbrandston to condemn their fate into division four next season. The hosts were all out for 126 in reply to the away team’s 154-6.

Jonathan Williams hit 68 for the hosts while Chris Stapleton took 3-49.

Lamphey won their fourth game on the bounce after thumping Lawrenny who batted first and scored 135-5 thanks to Chris Buckle’s 37 and John Beff’s 37.

Craig Williamson and Andrew Skeels both took a brace. In reply James Skeels smashed 40 not out off 19 balls and Dave Blackwell an unbeaten 46 as the home team eased to a win.

Meanwhile Stackpole all but guaranteed promotion with a win at Llechryd whose scored 145-8 thanks to Darrell Willington’s 3-32 and Marcus Adie’s 2-9. In reply James Adie struck a brilliant 93 not out to see them home.

Narberth seconds secured a winning draw at home against their counterparts from Burton after the home team scored 170-9 thanks to Andrew Williams’ 82 and Emyr Jenkins’ 20.

In reply, Burton were held at 132-8 as Lewis Hough took two wickets.

Carew thirds were all out for 101 in reply to Haverfordwest thirds’ 240-5 while Pembroke seconds beat Saundersfoot seconds by four wickets after they overhauled the Seasiders’ 169-7.

For Saudnersfoot, Dan James hit 79no while Kevin Sykes hit 17 and took 1-39. Chris Hawkes took 4-33.

Nigel Phillips took 3-21 for Pembroke and George McBeth 2-39 while Colin Kaijaks struck 55 and Spencer Harries 61,

Meanwhile in division five, Whitland thirds had a day to forget as they were all out for 40 against Fishguard who batted first and scored 148-9. Gwynne Phillips had something to smile about however as he took 4-44.

Kilgetty seconds tied with Llangwm with both sides stuck on 178 for a scintillating stalemate.

Kilgetty were all out in their total while Llangwm lost seven wickets.

For Kilgetty Jack Tucker scored 50 and took 2-17, Andrew Evans hit 44 and took 2-27 while Thomas Owen struck 20.

Cresselly thirds eased to a six wicket win at St Ishmaels seconds as Megan Jenkins took 4-21 while Billy Kinnear hit 38 and Jim Kinnear 30.

Stackpole seconds beat Llanrhian seconds after the Cows were all out for 118 with Russell Roberts taking 4-19. In reply, John Hughes hit 39 and Huw Mason an unbeaten 33.

Pembroke Dock seconds meanwhile drew with Haverfordwest fourths after the Dock hit 142-3 thanks to Glyn Griffiths’ 54, John Davies’ 33 and Steve Alford’s 29 while the hosts were 101-8 at the close.
