There was defeat for Narberth in division one of the Nicholas Insurance Pembroke County Cricket League over the weekend after going down to a heavy 122 run at home against Haverfordwest.

Haverfordwest were teetering at one stage yet a brilliant 82 from Ben Field helped them to a total of 195-8. Ben Quartermaine took 4-34 and Ben Hughes 3-72

Narberth, who were not at full strength were then dismissed for just 73 with Owain Richards top scoring on 29.

Whitland were at Llanrhian and had a few problems beating the division’s lowest ranked team winning by two wickets.

Llanrhian were all out for 162 after Iestyn Scourfield took 4-33 and Whitland then lost eight wickets in their jittery reply.

Jonathan Thomas steadied the ship however scoring 76 not out to seal the win that eased their relegation fears a little.

In-form team and prior to the weekend at least, challengers for league honours Cresselly suffered a shock defeat to Carew (although the Rooks will not see it as that).

The hosts batted first and scored just 111 as Ceri Brace and Tom Davies each took three wickets. For Cresselly, Simon Cole hit 35 and Adam Chandler 22.

In reply, the much improved Sam Harts took 2-31 yet a superb unbeaten 48 from Brian Hall helped Carew ease to a six wicket win.

Lawrenny were at Neyland and suffered a ten wicket defeat, a win for the hosts that puts them 48 points clear at the top of the tree.

Lawrenny were all out for just 80 with Steve Campbell’s 25 being the top score and Neyland hit the runs off with no problems at all.

In division two Kilgetty secured another win after a 129 run win over Hook.

Kilgetty scored 227 all out in their innings thanks to Martyn Tweedie’s 63 and Kyle Marsh’s 44 and then dismissed the hosts for just 98 as Ross Hardy took 5-25.

Whitland seconds meanwhile lost by nine wickets at home to Burton after the Borderers were all out for just 86. Gethin Scourfield top scored with 25. Burton passed it for the loss of just one wicket.

Top of the table Pembroke won again as they beat second from bottom Cresselly seconds by 131 runs.

Barry Evans hit 47, Jack Harries 51 and Phil Hay a spectacular 65 as they racked up 234-6.

The visitors were then dismissed for a paltry 103 after Sam Davies took 4-22 and Billy Wood 4-24.

Carew seconds lost too as they went down to a 29 run defeat at home to Llangwm who batted first and scored 184 all out. Dan Edwards and Joel Read each took three wickets and Max Brindley 2-28.

In reply, the Rooks were dismissed for 155 as Dafydd Bevan struck 34, Edwards and unbeaten 34 and Read 25.

Stackpole had Haverfordwest seconds nine down but failed to take the last as the hosts hung on for a draw.

Stackpole struck 187-7 and the Town were 180-9.

James Adie had a good day hitting 68 and taking 3-35 while Rob Matthias hit 64.

In division three Lawrenny seconds had an easy win over Hook seconds who were all out for 61 as Matthew Kidney took 3-24 and John fuller 3-21. Adrian Harries hit 29 not out in the reply.

Lamphey gained the double over Pembroke Dock after a second successive fifty for David Blackwell saw them over the line against their rivals.

Glyn Griffiths struck a defiant 70 not out for the Dock in their 148-5 and Nick Daley 23 who despite taking 3-19, still saw his side lose.

Earlier, Grant Cole took 3-8 off his nine overs.

Others to contribute for the Stags included Peter McGilloway with 23 and Scott Brunton with 22.

Shock of the day was at Haverfordwest as the hosts’ third team lost to Saundersfoot who slip down to third as a result.

Saundersfoot were all out for 124 despite Paul Mansbridge hitting 30 and James Caine 23.

Tom Mansbridge then took two wickets in the reply but the home team snuck over despite losing seven wickets.

There was no game for Saundersfoot seconds as they were due to play Fishguard who failed to raise a side for the third time this season. They have been expelled as a result.

Carew thirds lost at Burton seconds by just two wickets after Carew reached 141-6 in their overs. Jeremy Griffiths hit 37 and R. Godfrey 33

Burton creeped over the line despite Griffiths taking 2-33 and Aled Davies 3-19.

At Hundleton the derby fixture against Pembroke seconds saw the home team win by eight wickets.

Pembroke were all out for 88 as Steffan Williams took 3-27 and Paul Fox and Ben Adams two apiece. Fox then hit 53 in the reply.

Narberth seconds secured a winning draw at Llechryd seconds after scoring 191-1 in their innings and having Llechryd 170-7.

For Narberth Huw Simpkins hit 77 not out and Mike Williams 66. Mike Johns was unbeaten on 35.

In reply Williams took 2-51 but a century from Dewi Davies allowed the hosts to hang on just short of victory.

Meanwhile in division five there was no match for Kilgetty seconds while Whitland thirds lost at Stackpole seconds by three wickets.

Whitland were all out for 107 as Rupert Davies took 3-50 and Ewan McDonald 3-18.

Sion Benjamin scored 32 for Whitland and Gwynne Phillips 25.

In reply, James Thomas took 5-21 for the Borderers but Hugh Davies’ unbeaten 32 alongside Davies’s 38 saw them home.

The match between Pembroke Dock and Haverfordwest fourths was abandoned while at Cresselly, the home team’s thirds lost to Neyland thirds by nine wickets after the visitors dismissed the for just 58.
