Tenby 122 - Fishguard 35: Last Saturday the Giltar Hotel sponsored Tenby team played their first game in this year’s Carruthers Shield. In the last 10 years, the tenby club has a rich history in this competition, winning in 2009, runners-up in 2015 and semi-finalists in 2010, 12, 13, and after making a winning start to the league campaign - an 11-3 victory at Pembroke Dock - they were eager to keep the momentum going.

On rink one, Cam White, Evan Day, Peter Day were skipped to victory by current Welsh pairs champion Ryan Thomas, the rink winning 31-8

The other half of the pairs champs, Paul Diment skipped Dion Peregrine, Dai Spencer and Andrew Muskett to a comfortable win; 22-0 up after nine ends, they ran out 33-9 winners

On rink three, half of the indoor rink winners Mike Jackson and John Roberts were joined by Ash Hooper and Aaron Lloyd. This was a somewhat low scoring game on a tricky rink, but the boys eventually won 22-11

Rink four were in complete control, Luke Rees, Viv John, John Webb and skip Chris Court limiting their opponents to winning just five ends and winning 36-7

All in all a good start to the season, but tougher opponents to follow in the shape of Whitland at home and Haverfordwest away next weekend

Tenby Giltar v

Fishguard & Goodwick Strumblebees

Last Thursday, the brand new Tenby Giltar team played their first Meyrick Owen game, and were pleased to welcome Fishguard’s Strumblebees to the Sutton Street green. The weather was dry and mainly sunny, but with a fresh breeze. The green was pushy after the previous day’s rain, so after we struggled to reach on the trial ends, we kept mainly to medium length jacks.

It was the first game of the season for both teams and it took a little while to settle. The Giltar team of Ken, Carol, Jan and Alison went into an early lead, and, although Strumblebees fought back, they managed to keep ahead and win by 37-15, so it was a good start. Let’s hope we can keep it going.
