On Tuesday, May 22, Tenby Arches Ladies welcomed Picton to their Sutton Street green on a pleasant, sunny evening.
On rink five, Katie, Liz, Jo and Alison had a very close game throughout. They scored three on the second end, but then lost the next four ends. Picton held a small lead of 5-3 after six ends. Tenby then settled down, winning four of the next five ends, but Picton fought back and won six of the last seven ends. The final score was an honourable draw of 13 each, which was a fair result for a hard-fought game.
On rink six, birthday girl Lynn, Carol, Jan and Helen got off to a good start and had a lead of 15-5 at the half-way point.
Unfortunately, the second half told a different story and they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by winning only one of the remaining eight ends. They went into the last end with a narrow lead of 17-16, but Picton then scored two, claiming the final victory by 18-17. Picton therefore won the game overall by just one-shot.
Both games were very close and played in good spirit.
Tenby Arches Ladies v Neyland
On Saturday, a slightly depleted Tenby Arches Ladies welcomed Neyland to the Sutton Street green. Despite dire weather warnings, it was a warm, pleasant day and the game was captured forever by photographer Laurence Hourahane.
On rink five, Katie, Liz and Jo won the first end, but lost the next five before rallying, to make it a respectable 7-9 to Neyland at the half-way point. They stayed in close contact with Neyland right up to the second to last end, but unfortunately dropped a six on the penultimate end. It was too late to catch up and the score at the end of the game was 10-18 to Neyland. After the 25 per cent deduction the final score was Tenby 7.5 Neyland 18.
On rink six, Carol, Jan and Helen took the early lead and were 11-5 up after 10 ends. They maintained their lead up to the 14th end, but then Neyland scored eight shots in the next three ends. Tenby went into the last end still just ahead by 17 shots to 14. Neyland scored one on the final end, so the score was 17-15 to Tenby before the deduction, unfortunately not quite enough to give them a point. The final score was Tenby 12.75 Neyland 15.
