West Wales Ladies Bowling Association have been celebrating runners-up spot in the Savegar Trophy for the first time ever!
After wins against West Glamorgan and Penyglyn and narrowly losing to holders Glamorgan, the county side qualified for the final against Ceredigion at Carmarthen on Sunday.
And the success is even more remarkable as the team finished bottom of the league table last year, having not won a match since July 2013!
Although the weather was not at its best for the final, the WWLBA gave it their best shot and, despite having three winning rinks, they were defeated by 18 shots.
Top rink for the WWLBA was Kath Blayney (Saundersfoot), Jenny Harris (Fishguard), Cally Jones (Whitland) and Val Hubbard (Neyland).
Welsh president Ann Thomas (Haverfordwest) presented the Savegar Trophy to Ceredigion president Janice Parsons and the runners-up trophy to WWLBA president Ceris Hewlings, who dedicated the team’s success to former president Gloria Dugmore, who sadly passed away in May.
