The 16 Saundersfoot competition finals took place last weekend and, although the weather was again indifferent, particularly on Sunday, all matches were able to be completed.
Pride of place must go to club captain Graham Hughes who made it through to six finals and emerged victorious in five events.
Brian Dooley, Dai Davies and Steve Dick played in five finals each with mixed results, whilst Kath Blayney and Sandra Ingerson contested all three ladies singles events, with Sandra also appearing in two other finals.
The accolade of becoming this year’s club champions went to Kath Blayney and Myrddin Dennis and the whole weekend was enjoyed by players and spectators.
Tournament organiser Paul Blayney officiated each day and was assisted in marking duties by Neil Hensman, Sue Roden, Christine Ball and Kath Blayney, whilst everyone was kept fed and watered by vice-chairlady Diane Rigden and the ladies of the club.
The presentation of trophies evening will be taking place on Thursday, October 19.

SAUNDERSFOOT 59 PURLEY BURY 43
Saundersfoot played their last friendly of a busy season last week, a five-rink mixed match, entertaining tourists from the Purley Bury club in Surrey.
On a damp afternoon, but thanks to the efforts of club members Paul Sneyd, Alan Rich and Ken James who cleared the green of surface water, a curtailed match was able to take place, with the villagers winning by 16 shots.
Whilst the green was being made playable, captain Graham Hughes kept everyone entertained with a quiz and a few jokes and, after the game, all enjoyed singing led by Alwen Hughes and, of course, stories by Dennis Reed.
Graham, aided of course by Alwen, have done excellent work all season as witnessed by every team who visited in the friendly matches who have all commented on the wonderful welcome that they received.
Roll on next year when Graham has again been persuaded to reprise his captaincy of the club.
Rink scores, with Saundersfoot first and Purley Bury skips only, were:
Mick Smith, Christine Ball, Dennis Ball, Christine Harris 15; A. Bradshaw 6.
Roy Hooper, John Arman, Sandra Ingerson, Paul Sneyd 13; D. Tarran 7.
Lyn Reyed, Alan Rich, Ken James, Sue Roden 11; R. Gordon 6.
Kath Williams, Ian Smith, Alwen Hughes, Brian Desmond 7; R. Greenfields 17.
Peter Williams, Angie Smith, Billy Glynn, Richard Whittaker 13; J. Tucker 7.
FINAL LEAGUE PLACINGS
Both the Saundersfoot First Division team and the St. Issell’s ladies team have finished second in their league campaigns, with the ladies being particularly unlucky, losing out on top place by just one point to Whitland.
St. Brides in the Meyrick Owen were due to play their last match yesterday at home to Tenby before discovering their final placing, whilst the St. Issell’s Second Division men’s team, who play their last fixture tomorrow at home to Castle, of Haverfordwest, and the Saundersfoot ladies all have mid-table finishes.
MEN’S COUNTY COMPETITION ENTRY FORMS
Although the 2017 season is nearly at an end, the men’s county entry sheets for 2018 are already available on the club notice board and need to be completed by next month.
