MEN’S FIRST DIVISION

The Saundersfoot men’s team recently completed their Pembrokeshire Division One league programme with two wins to give them a third place finish for the second successive year.

Playing at home to Pembroke Dock, who were at the time joint third in the table, the villagers produced one of their best performances of the season to win by an impressive 57 shots, with three winning rinks, giving them 12 of the 14 points that were at stake.

Rink scores with Saundersfoot first and Pembroke Dock skips only were:

Roy Kennion, Nev Ruff, Alan Brain, Steve Dick 15; Richard Hissey 24.

Graham Hughes, Don Poole, Paul Blayney, Brian Desmond 27; Richard Jones 4.

George Cavell, Neil Hensman, Dai Davies, Myrddin Dennis 39; Brian Dowling 11.

Dave Hicks, Selwyn Price, Mackie Brace, Joe Dennis 24; Matthew John 9.

Congratulations to Dave Hicks who stepped in at the last moment for his debut in the Saundersfoot team and, following an excellent game, looks set to make many more appearances in the future.

Then, playing their last game away to Milford Haven, the team were again victorious, winning by 12 shots and picking up another 12 points.

So, another league campaign has come to an end with Saundersfoot again showing their continued improvement, only losing to high-flying Tenby by narrow margins both home and away and only losing five matches.

With player availability affecting some of their losses, the villagers, if fielding their strongest team, can be a match for anybody and hopefully will be vying for the league title again next season.

Captain Mackie would like to thank the players for their support this season.

ST. ISSELL’S LADIES TEAM

The ladies of St. Issell’s gained the double over Pendine last week with a 44 shots to 21 win and, with a few games left to play, could still achieve a top four finish.

The Beryl Lewis quartet defeated Gill Cobb’s rink by 28 shots to nine, whilst Christine Harris led her girls to a 16 shots to 12 win over Gwen Hale.

CHARITY MATCH

Please note that tonight’s (Friday’s) charity match has been cancelled and will now take place at the start of next season.

CLUB FINALS

These take place this weekend and good luck to all the players involved in the various competitions.

COUNTY COMPETITIONS

The current season is not yet over, but entry forms for the men’s county competitions for 2017 are on the notice board and need to be completed by the end of October.
