Four bowlers from Pembrokeshire represented Wales at the 2016 Para Bowls Home Nations Championships that took place at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls centre in Glasgow recently.
The venue, used for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, hosted the event that would help classify the players for future tournaments.
Milford Haven’s Jack Lloyd represented the nation for the visual impaired, team while Jonathan Hubbard from Kilgetty, Milford Haven’s Raymond Lillicrop and Ben Hopkin from Goodwick made up the physically disabled team.
Each competed in the singles, pairs, triples and rinks.
“The standard of competition was very high and although the majority were competing in their first tournament at this level, they performed well enough to finish second behind host nation Scotland,” said Pembrokeshire County Council disability sports development officer Angela Miles.
“Not only does this bode well for the future of para bowls in Pembrokeshire, the quality of bowls displayed by the players in this major tournament bodes well for the future of the sport in Wales and we can be proud that players from our county are playing their part in that.”
