The Pembroke Dock Bowling Club Finals Day was held last Saturday, with male and female members competing for the prestigious silverware (writes H.C.).

The matches were keenly contested, with the appreciative spectators enjoying a feast of bowling on an immaculate playing surface from 10 am until the sun was setting over the Haven.

At the end of play, the vast array of cups and trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up by the club president, Mrs. Diana Davies, and the excellent day was rounded off with players and spectators enjoying a buffet.

Many thanks to club captain Richard Jones (organiser) and also the ladies and bar staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

Pembroke Dock v Fishguard & Goodwick

Following a string of excellent results since early July, The Dock travelled north of the Landsker Line last week to take on a Fishguard side that has struggled all season to avoid relegation to the second tier.

Thanks to another impressive team effort, The Dock maintained their winning streak and returned home in an upbeat mood having picked up another haul of 14 points, lifting them into third place in the league table.

Rink scores (Fishguard skips only) were:

Dave Finn, Hugh Colley, Hugh Williams, Matt John 22; Davo Hughes 17.

Tudor Harries, Alan Yea, Dave Halward, Brian Dowling 33; Tom Jones 9.

Jerry Carroll, Karl Bierschenk, Reg Thomas, Richard Hissey 19; Tony Evans 11.

Al Benn, Boyd Parry, Ken Edwards, Richard Jones 28; Mike Barringer 9.

Final Score: Pembroke Dock 103 (14 pts) Fishguard & Goodwick 46 (0).

The weekend saw a break from league action due to the club Finals Day being held. Tomorrow (Saturday), The Dock travel to the seaside to take on Saundersfoot who are also vying to clinch third spot in the league - it should be a closely fought encounter!

West Wales Ladies Bowling Association

Finally, congratulations to Anne Cole and Barbara Rapley who won the West Wales Ladies Bowling Association pairs competition. The final was staged at Haverfordwest last Saturday when the ‘Dynamic Duo’ beat Janet Sutton and Jenny Harris, of Neyland, in a closely contested final by 22 shots to 18.
