Following on from the previous week’s defeat at Haverfordwest, Pembroke Dock were hoping to make amends against a strong Tenby Five Arches side at The Memorial Park last Saturday.

However, their opponents, strengthened by a number of experienced ‘new’ players, had different ideas and returned victorious to the seaside.

The match was played on a sunny, breezy afternoon on a verdant green surface that drew praise from both sets of players - it certainly plays as well as it looks.

The Dock’s club captain, Richard Jones, ably supported by Ken Edwards, Paul Williams and Dave Finn, led by example with an excellent 26 shots to 12 win against a formidable rink skipped by Jon Webb.

Sadly, this was the home side’s only win, with the other three rinks struggling to make any sort of impact, the final tally being Pembroke Dock 78 shots (two points), Five Arches 92 shots (12).

On the same afternoon, the Pater side travelled the short distance across the Cleddau Bridge hoping to replicate their excellent win of the previous week by beating Neyland. Sadly, the euphoria of last week’s success soon faded away to a distant memory. Pater came down to earth with a resounding thud losing by the considerable margin of 115.75 shots to 47, thereby picking up a meagre two league points. (Due to Neyland being three players short, scores on three rinks were been adjusted by 25 per cent).

Unfortunately, Saturday’s fine sunny weather did not last. The traditional Bank Holiday weather on Sunday caused the Mariners’ match against St. Issell’s to be postponed.

The league takes a rest for the next few weeks as clubs participate in the preliminary rounds for the prestigious Carruthers Shield (Welsh Championship) - let’s hope that The Dock can use these matches to recover some sort of form.
