Proud West Wales Ladies Bowls Association president Andrea Thomas is seen in Ayr with four young members of the WWLBA who were in Scotland last weekend representing Wales in the junior home internationals.

From left are Sara John-Davies, of Pembroke Dock Bowling Club, Ysie White, of Tenby Bowling Club, president Andrea, and Katie Thomas and Katie Dickinson, of Whitland Bowling Club.

There were mixed fortunes for the Welsh team, who defeated England in a nail-biting opening match, but then lost to Ireland and Scotland, the overall winners, with Wales finishing third.

However, the local bowlers figured prominently throughout, with Katie Thomas’s rink being top Welsh rink of the weekend and Katie Dickinson, who was winning her first cap, being chosen as the Welsh team’s player of the series.

Unfortunately, the two Katies, who were also representing Wales in the British Isles pairs championship lost out in the semi-finals to a pair from Ireland.

All four are back in action this coming Sunday when they will be playing for the WWLBA in an important Savegar Trophy match against South Wales and Mon at Caldicott, where victory will see them through to the final of the county competition.
