World Book Day got off to a really special start at Monkton Priory Community School on Friday with a fun-filled story-telling event for parents and children organised by Springboard, part of Learning Pembrokeshire.
The pupils, who dressed in characters from their favourite books for the day, enjoyed fascinating stories from Melissa Holloway, an experienced storyteller from South Africa, and lively music from Bongo Clive.
Headteacher Mrs. Shelley Morris said she was so pleased to have been sitting at the front of the hall, as seeing the children's expressions as each story was unfolding proved an absolute joy.
A real highlight of the event was when Melissa invited Bongo Clive to accompany her African story with the African beat of the bongos.
"The story and music worked together perfectly, and could have been a hard act to follow if it wasn't for the fact that next up was the all singing and drumming Bongo Clive!" said Laura Phillips, Springboard co-ordinator.
"With bongos banging, and bells ringing, World Book Day at Monkton Priory was a real fun occasion for all the family," she added.
Learning Pembrokeshire is the community learning arm of Pembrokeshire County Council.
