The newly-created Pembroke Town Walls Trust (PTWT) has formed a partnership for their pilot project with the Tabernacle United Reformed Church in Pembroke and Pembroke 21C Community Association.

The official agreement was signed on September 11 at the Tabernacle following several weeks of hard work to produce a very thorough document.

Each partner will lead different areas of the project. Tabernacle will focus on up-grading their church building to provide accommodation for wider community use. Pembroke 21C will focus on the restoration of the burgage garden and provide interpretation and an exhibition of the whole project, 'Pembroke Journey Through Time', to complement the existing 'Pembroke Story at Tabernacle' exhibition which is permanently on display inside the church. The PTWT will focus on a pilot project to restore the Town Walls belonging to the property.

PTWT experiences from this pilot will show what 'added value' can be achieved for Pembroke from a core aim to repair and consolidate the town walls, and will be a first step on the way to rolling out the pilot to more sections of the walls over the coming years.

Janet Drogan, chair of the Town Walls Trust, said: "It is our belief that by showing how one imaginative use of a burgage plot can enrich many facets of community life, the work of PTWT will inspire others to take up the challenge of creating similarly sustainable projects of many types and sizes throughout our ancient town. In the castle, walls and towers of Pembroke, we have a great asset which has the potential to regenerate our town for the future. All we need is creative determination to realise that potential."
