A Monkton woman who tried to sell a car for scrap after agreeing it could be stored on her property, pleaded guilty this week to a charge of theft of the vehicle.
Haverfordwest magistrates heard on Tuesday that 48-year-old Valerie Ebrey, of Tenby Court, had agreed to a request from her neighbour, Mr. Wood, who had asked if his son's girlfriend Sonia Duffin could temporarily keep her Fiat Punto car at Ms Ebrey's property, while they carried out some work on it, in order for it to pass its MOT test.
The prosecution revealed that Mr. Wood returned home on September 19 of last year to see Ms Duffin's vehicle on the back of a transit, ready to be taken away by scrap dealers, who had purchased the N reg car from Ms Ebrey for £50.
When interviewed by police and asked if she thought she had any right to get rid of the vehicle, Ms Ebrey said that she had asked for it to be moved from her drive, but nothing had been done about it.
She added that she had seen the scrap people outside talking to another neighbour and they had asked if she wanted to sell the vehicle for scrap.
Magistrates gave Ms Ebrey a conditional discharge for a six-month period and she was ordered to pay £50 costs to the owner of the vehicle and £40 costs to the court.
