Sir,

I visited Glen Beach, Saundersfoot, on Tuesday, to pick some cockles for my own consumption, only to find that once again there were hordes of Chinese cockle pickers stripping the beach and collecting numerous sacks of cockles for obvious commercial purposes.

There are bylaws against taking shellfish for commercial purposes, but no-one seems to be making any real effort to stop it.

It would be very simple to catch and arrest these pickers.

This is not just a local problem as I read about Chinese cockle pickers being arrested in North Wales. Why can’t we do the same?
