At the recent meeting of Whitland Town Council the following items were discussed.

The defibrillator and cabinet purchased with the generous assistance of Whitland Male Voice Choir had arrived, and were awaiting installation.

The Council were hoping the lease for Whitland abbey ruins would be signed soon.

The discussions and information gathering regarding potentially taking on the ownership of Nasareth Chapel cemetery were ongoing.

Whitland Town Council was delighted that Whitland had been selected as the Town of Culture for 2019, and would be helping to co-ordinate events throughout the year. Possibilities included a coffee morning, a walk around Whitland, an exhibition in the Memorial Hall and a concert, as well as a litter pick.

The project to provide a map of play areas for the town was progressing well. Tenders for grass cutting and an electrician had been open for contractors to apply through January – the completed tenders were discussed and the successful contractors agreed.

The Council was concerned over the disruption that could be caused by the upcoming level crossing work, and would be keeping a close eye on it. Discussions were also held about the Local Development Plan and how it would affect the area.

There were no planning applications to consider, but there was a consultation regarding the placing of parking restrictions opposite Dyffryn Taf High School, which the Council were in favour of being done for safety and access reasons.

Amongst the other correspondence received was a recycling consultation, and also the chance to nominate a group or individual for the celebration of culture awards.
