A ‘Hopewalk’ in aid of the charity PAPYRUS (prevention of young suicide) took place in Whitland recently raising a magnificent £1,116 for the cause.

Organised by local Jackie Rodgers whose sister Kate Heneghan is head of the Welsh branch of the charity, 15 people and two dogs took part in the five mile walk, braving the elements on the day.

A big thanks goes to all those that took part, along with those that very kindly donated raffle prizes: Whitland Rugby Club; Enigma Whitland; Hazel Hair St Clears; Co-Op Whitland; Station House Whitland; Boots Whitland; Harries Butchers Whitland; Got Cake St Clears.

The organisers intend to make the ‘Hopewalk’ fundraiser an annual event.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 years across the UK, and more than 200 school aged children die from suicide every year in the UK.
