We pensioners moan that young people are sitting around at street corners, but there are many of them in Tenby wanting to get involved in serious fun and join the various youth groups.

Tenby Sea Cadets are urgently trying to recruit volunteers to replace staff who have given years of service and are now approaching retirement. We know that the other cadet organisations, Scout and Guides groups are also facing this shortage of adult volunteers.

Surely there must be many adults who could give a few hours each week to guide and encourage our young people. Why not try and contact the groups where you enjoyed your youth and memories.

We welcome Clr. Lawrence Blackhall, Tenby Mayor’s initiative in promoting ‘volunteering’ this year.

Remember, we need these young people to take over from us to run our towns and country so they need encouragement to develop their confidence and skills to be ready to take over from us!
