Happy New Year! January is the month of Veganuary, Dry January, and the Festival of Sleep, so if vegan cooking, alternatives to alcohol or improving your sleep interest you we have a selection of books on these subjects in our Healthy New Year display in the hallway. Titles include Vegan 100, Teetotal Tipples and Fast Asleep, Wide Awake.

Did Santa bring you a brand new smartphone, laptop or tablet computer which is bewildering you? Or perhaps you are trying something new on your faithful older machine which leaves you befuddled? Our Digital Champion Volunteer Roger runs a drop-in session every Monday morning 10-12, just bring your device along and ask your question. There’s no need to book and it’s completely free. If you have a more in-depth question for him, there are two 30-minute bookable periods, at 12 pm and at 12.30 pm.

Baby Rhyme Time is back from Tuesday, for pre-school age children and their adults, with half-an-hour of songs and stories. Also, Cymraeg i Blant is back for more songs and stories in Welsh for young children, starting on Friday, January 17, at 1.15 - 2.15 pm, for five weeks. There’s no need to book for either of these and there’s no charge, just turn up and have fun.

We have an author talk on Saturday, January 18, at 11 am, in the hall. Local author Mark Bashford will be here to talk about the path to publication and to read extracts from his book From Benefits to Billions, a light-hearted novel about a young man content to drift through life until an act of desperation and an encounter with a mysterious man changes his life. This is a free event, no booking required.

New novels in this month include In the Lion’s Den by Barbara Taylor Bradford, the sequel to Master of His Fate; Doing Time by Jodi Taylor, a Time Police spin-off to the Chronicles of St Mary’s series; and Spy, the new novel by Danielle Steel. Non-fiction new books include Willpower Doesn’t Work, Skiing – The Haynes Instruction Manual, and Hunky Dory (Who Knew?).

Library members with smartphones, tablets (not Kindle) or computer access can also borrow a wide range of e-books and e-audiobooks and read e-magazines completely for free through the libraries page of the council website www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/using-library-services/247-e-library.

The parking enforcement officers patrol the library car-park and may issue tickets to those who abuse the parking system. There are warning notices up around the car-park. We have a number of short-stay bays immediately outside the library which can be used for up to 30 minutes (60 minutes with a Blue Badge) without a parking permit. These are clearly marked with 30-minute or Disabled Parking signs. Parking anywhere else in the car park requires a permit which can be obtained from staff.
