A piece of art made entirely from ocean plastic washed up on local beaches depicting the Welsh flag was taken out on display in Saundersfoot on St. David’s Day to deliver an eco and plastic pollution message.
The community art project led by Julie Davies was made up of findings from Saundersfoot, Coppet, Wiseman’s Bridge beaches, and pieced together at Saunderfoot village’s Cawl Festival held last year at the Regency Hall.
The festival’s special guests Welsh rugby stars Alun Wyn Jones and Ken Owens even got involved, with hooker Ken sticking the dragon’s front paw on, and captain Alun putting on the heart of the dragon.
“I had a table set up at the festival with buckets of my collected plastics and people were encouraged to stick a piece on to help build the flag,” explained Julie.
“You may have ‘only’ stuck something small like a toothpaste tube cap on but it all added up to a finished flag - much the same as ‘only’ picking up as little as one piece of ocean plastic off the beach, it all adds up to make a huge difference!”
