An event to promote ‘volunteering’ in the area is to be organised by the Mayor of Tenby.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, who emphasised at the Mayor-making ceremony in May, that his theme for the year would be ‘Tenby United’, with the focus on promoting and celebrating volunteering in the town, told his colleagues that he was working alongside PAVS (Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services) to organise the event.

“It will be an opportunity for lots of people and organisations in the area to thrash out ideas and encourage volunteering,” he explained.

Clr. Blackhall said that he would soon set a date for the event which would be called ‘Time for Tenby’ and liaise with PAVS about publicising it.

Clr. Mrs. Brown asked if there had been a response to the plea issued at the previous town council meeting for more volunteers to come to the surface to help keep Tenby Sea Cadets afloat, with the town clerk confirming that a couple of people had come forward.

“If you don’t put it out there, then you don’t know, some people fear that if they volunteer then some groups and cliques may not want them, and they won’t be welcome, but the key to volunteering is that everybody is welcome,” said Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.

“If you think that you want to belong to something, then put yourself forward,” she continued, with Clr. Blackhall stating that it was a “breath of fresh air” when a new volunteer jumped on board.
