Do you think you could help champion local trees and woods?

If so, then why not consider becoming a Pembrokeshire Coast National Park volunteer tree warden for Tenby?

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority Tree Warden Network has been running since 2004 and was only the second such scheme to be launched in Wales.

Tenby Town Councillor Trevor Hallett has been the volunteer tree warden for the resort since the scheme’s inception but recently decided to step down on health grounds.

Now the hunt is on for someone with the same love of our trees and woods as Clr. Hallett to be able to take over.

Tree Wardens Pembrokeshire currently has around 40 members spread throughout the county working with the National Park’s Tree and Landscape Officer, Mr. Mike Higgins, to care for local trees within the National Park and encouraging community involvement through projects with local schools and community groups.

As an ambassador helping to safeguard some of the trees and landscape features that make the National Park so special you can be involved in monitoring ancient, veteran and notable trees within your locality; liaising with town and community councils about opportunities for community tree planting and the creation of Community Orchards; assisting Mr. Higgins on tree preservation orders and keeping an eye out for pests and diseases that could have an adverse effect on our trees.

Time commitment is around 12 to 24 hours a year given to exploring the local area to monitor it, along with scheduled training and community events that may take place on an ongoing basis.

No experience is necessary as volunteer tree wardens are fully supported by Mr. Higgins who will provide training and support and he is always available if volunteers need assistance, guidance or advice.

If you are able to give up some time, have a willingness to learn and are happy to work outside you can learn more about the Tree Wardens Pembrokeshire scheme by contacting either Mike Higgins or Celia Thomas, on 0845 345 7275 or by emailing [email protected]
