The next exhibition at Oriel Q Narberth titled ‘Venus’ - will showcase the work of Keith Bayliss, Roger Moss and William Brown.
Several years before his death, artist William Brown proposed a three artist exhibition exploring the theme of Venus. William had for some years, prompted by his “discovery” of a small carved votive figure, in a cave in a hill above the village of Blaengwynfi, produced paintings and prints on the theme.
He sadly passed away before this could be realised but Roger and Keith decided to carry on with the idea and this exhibition combines some of Williams original paintings and prints and new work by Roger and Keith in a variety of media - painting, prints, drawings and sculpture.
William Brown was born in Toronto, Canada in 1953 and died in Bridgend, Wales in 2008. He was a prolific and highly imaginative artist whose work was informed by poetry, literature and travel. He collaborated with many poets and writers producing glorious black and white lino, wood block and silk screen prints although he was lauded for being a great colourist.
Keith Bayliss, a Swansea artist and educator uses drawings, prints and sculpture to create sometimes quirky and often spiritual images. His figures have a presence and in this collaboration his muses on Venus has resulted in a series of fabulous drawings, paintings and sculptures.
Roger Moss is a sculptor of over 40 years experience. Based in Carmarthen he has worked with the full gamut of traditional and contemporary tools, techniques and materials. In his collaboration with William and Keith he has created sculptures of the female form, Venus, depicted in wire and bronze which are powerful in their simplicity.
This has resulted in a fascinating exhibition which will be opened by William’s widow Carys on Saturday at 2 pm.
The exhibition is open from Wednesday to Saturday, between 10 am and 5 pm.
There will be an opportunity to hear Keith and Roger ‘in conversation’ with curator Lynne Crompton on Saturday, October 27 at 2 pm and there will also be a workshop with Keith date to be decided.
