Tenby’s Deputy Mayor has asked for an urgent follow up on discussions to ascertain how the town council can help in any way to protect the future of the the resort’s Tourist Information Centre.
Councillors in Tenby recently vowed to work with Pembrokeshire County Council in a bid to retain the town’s TIC which has been earmarked for potential closure by the authority, with the town’s Deputy Mayor stating that such a decision would be ‘detrimental’ to the resort.
Following concerns raised by members of Tenby town council regarding rumours that the facility located on Upper Park Road had been identified by PCC’s cabinet as one of a number of services under their ‘transformation agenda’ that worked be reviewed for radical rethinking on delivery or cessation, the town clerk Andrew Davies and Clr. Mike Evans, attended a meeting with PCC heads of service Mike Cavanagh and Paul Ashley-Jones recently to discuss the matter, who explained that the Tenby TIC was one off the services being reviewed, along with other Customer Services Centres.
The matter is due to be discussed further at a finance seminar at County Hall on November 26 councillors were told.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown asked if there had been a follow up to this matter, as councillors had vowed to work with PCC to protect the future, and asked the town clerk to chase the matter up as a matter of ‘urgency’.
