A ‘True Lover of Tenby’ weeding team has been established to tackle areas of the resort in need of some TLC.
A recent meeting of the town’s gardens, maintenance and general purpose’ committee, Tenby in Bloom chair and Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, suggested the group, and also that a planned ‘community weeding’ day be planned, with Battery Road/Lions Gardens one of the main areas to be tackled.
On a recent walkabout of the town other areas pinpointed for weeding included St Florence Parade and areas around the trees in the Esplanade Gardens.
Pembrokeshire County Council representative Neil McCarthy told the meeting that he had no issues with the weeding team tackling these areas as the manpower resources for the authority were tight. He said that he would supply boxes and bin bags for the wedding teams to use which could be left for collection.
It was noted that the standpipe funded by Tenby town council had been a ‘saving grace’ - greatly reducing the time spent filling the water bowser. However, the prolonged dry spell had meant that gardens staff were spending a considerable time on watering at the moment to ensure the bedding plants did not die.
Clr. Mrs. Lane said that Tenby in Bloom had recently worked with the company ‘Flock of Clouds’ to produce ‘Love Tenby’ leaflets encouraging residents and businesses alike to make a daily effort to ‘sweep, wash and weed’ outside their premises, which appeared to be working in the areas where they had been distributed already.
The leaflets run the text - ‘Our little town is special - it features on postacrds, in painings, films, TV?shows and in the memories of the thousands of people who visit us every year...but there’s always more we can do to make sure that image of perfection remains.’
