In the three months up to the end of February 2012, local volunteers gave over 1,800 hours of their time to the community. This is just what we know of through 21C and only a part of the amount of volunteering undertaken around Pembroke by all local projects and voluntary organisations. Activities undertaken include holding events, planning the Pembroke Festival for July, office administration, informal computer training, litter picking and conservation, including the planting of 3,500 trees!
Timebanking projects aim to value and celebrate people's help for their community. All timebanking schemes are based upon exchanging services valued in hours of time. There is great variety in the ways projects can work based upon local needs, wishes and opportunities. Would a timebanking project be good for Pembroke?
"We would like to invite you to a Timebanking Evening. It's a chance to find out about timebanking and an opportunity to express any thoughts on whether it might be good for Pembroke," said a spokesperson for 21C. "A presentation will be given by Bernadette Jones from Spice, who have substantial experience of timebanking. We would be delighted to welcome anyone living or working in the Pembroke area.
"We'd much appreciate if you would like to come along to our Timebanking Evening on Tuesday, May 29, at 6.30 pm, at Foundry House. Tea and cake will be provided."
