Last Monday, the Tenby Project met once again at Augustus Place. The morning was spent dropping around more leaflets offering to do shopping or fetch prescriptions or library books or other small jobs that they would be able to help with.
The Tenby Project is a new initiative that encourages adults with learning disabilities to enjoy being part of the community and joining in activities alongside everyone else.
Each Monday, over the next three months, The Tenby Project will feature ‘Community and Creative’ zones, with everyone welcome to head along to Augustus Place Community Hall to volunteer in the mornings, or to join in the activities in the afternoons.
If anyone in Tenby would like a bit of shopping or something else doing for them on a Monday morning, please get in touch with Anne on 01834 844002 or [email protected]
Weekly challenges were carried out, with refreshments offered to visitors, placemats made, and designs for a logo thought up.
After lunch, the room was prepared for guests and the speaker, Emma Lewis from PACTO, the association of community transport organisations.
Emma talked about the local Dial-a Ride, which is available during the day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Tenby/Saundersfoot area. It is available for anyone to use - just ring 0800 783 1584 to book your journey ahead. Plans were made to use this service to have a morning out when Augustus Place is already booked! Emma also talked about Country Cars, which is a service run by volunteers to help people get to wherever they need to in the County. People are able to ask for one journey each week, and it can be to wherever they need to go, as long as a volunteer can be found. PACTO also have minibuses and accessible vehicles that can be hired, and there is also a service to help to make sure people don’t get stuck in hospital due to lack of transport to get home.
It was a very interesting talk, and by the end of the afternoon, a journey for next week had already been booked.
This Monday, January 24, the Tenby Project is having an exclusive tour around Tenby Museum and Art Gallery. The plan is to be up at the Museum for 1 pm. As usual, in the morning, the group will be out and about delivering leaflets and attending the community garden. There are also plans to start working on some crafts to sell for charity at a coffee morning next month.
Everyone is welcome to go to Augustus Place and help out in the morning, and can join in our challenges and the Tenby Project Award as well if they would like to, or to act as a mentor for people who are doing the Award. The walk from Augustus Place to the Museum will be a Big Winter Wander for the WWF so anyone is welcome to join in doing this, or to sponsor The Tenby Project to do this.
