A representative of Tenby’s ’Chamber of Trade and Tourism’ organisation has questioned whether the resort needs a Tourist Information Centre.

Speaking at a meeting held this month of the ‘Tenby Town Regeneration Team’ when discussing the future of the TIC which has been earmarked for closure by Pembrokeshire County Council, Chamber of Trade’s Chris Osborne suggested to those present as to whether the facility was ‘really needed’ for the town at all, as people did not use it for booking accommodation any longer, but only to browse for attractions in the area.

PCC unveiled a brand new look for the tourist information and customer service centre located on Upper Park Road last week - which will now host a new coffee and snack bar to complement the tourism advice available for visitors to the town.

The new venture follows a recommendation from the Council’s Cabinet that the centre might have to close after the summer unless a permanent solution could be found to improve revenue and cut costs.

Town councillor Laurence Blackhall said at the ‘regeneration meeting’ that the need for a TIC for Tenby had been established, and it was just a question of how funding could be raised to pay for staffing.

He told those present that he was not optimistic that PCC’s idea of selling coffee and sandwiches would be enough. He added that the town council were looking to organise a further meeting with the town’s tourism sector stakeholders to discuss ways forward.
