Despite most people having more time to work on their gardens this year during lockdown, the organisers of the annual Tenby in Bloom competition have expressed their disappointment that the event won’t take place this year due to the pandemic.
The competition is usually a chance for the town’s retail premises, shops, pubs, restaurants, guest houses and hotels to show off their floral displays and credentials for the summer season, along with householders, with various categories listed for awards.
Judges then hit the town in July to peruse over entries for the resort, with an awards ceremony held at the Mayor’s Parlour after the summer.
An announcement to cancel this year’s Wales in Bloom event - popular in the past with coastal town’s such as Tenby and Saundersfoot enjoying success was made in March, in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.
“We were leaving it until the last minute to see how things were going but I don’t think we have any other option but to cancel it for this year,” said Tenby in Bloom chair Clr. Sue Lane.
“I appreciate that more people than ever have been gardening to a very high standard, and I’m really sad about the situation,” she added.
