Tenby town council welcomed new members to the council chambers on Tuesday night for their first meeting - including the resort’s youngest ever councillor!
An ‘open evening’ looking to encourage new members to join the council was held recently, with the resort’s Mayor and current members hosting the event to explain to prospective candidates what it meant to be a local councillor in an attempt to encourage more people to consider standing.
Last week prospective candidates were afforded the opportunity to present their cases to councillors on why they should represent Tenby on the town council.
In the North Ward former deputy headboy at Greenhill School, Harry Whitehurst was co-opted into the role at a meeting on Tuesday night.
“At 21 we think he is the youngest councillor to serve on Tenby Town Council - since we were set up in 1974 anyway,” the town clerk Andrew Davies said.
Harry has just completed a Law Degree at Bristol, and is well-known locally as a musician, with his percussion skills.
In the South Ward local restauranteur Matthew Ronowitz and Dai Morgan who recently organised the 280 mile Harten from Harrogate to Tenby in aid for The British Heart Foundation charity were both co-opted as councillors as well.
