Tenby Soroptimists recently presented Carole Brinton Thomas with a cheque for £500 for the Water Bearers, a charity providing water filters in areas of contaminated drinking water worldwide.

Carole’s sister Jane is spearheading this global enterprise, and is currently working in the Ecuadorean Amazon Rainforest, where its inhabitants are increasingly at risk of suffering waterborne diseases and malnutrition. By installing the filters, communities are able to access clean, filtered drinking water.

President of Tenby Soroptimists Pam Maggs would like to thank all those who helped to raise this money: “The filters cost £40 each, and last about ten years, so our contribution will help many families to enjoy drinking water as we do,” she said

“By helping them, we are also helping the planet.”

Please ask any Soroptimist member if you would like tickets for the Festival of Puddings next month. The menu consists of six courses of mini puddings, from savoury to sweet. Tickets and menus are available through any member. Tickets are £25, and proceeds will go to Young Minds, the charity supporting children and adolescents with mental health issues.
