Tenby is going to be the setting for a production by the National Theatre Wales.
In September, artistic director Kully Thiarai will present The Tide Whisperer by Louise Wallwein, designed by Camilla Clark.
An immersive show, the piece aims to confront the realities of modern displacement and mass movement. The performance will be presented on a moving boat across Tenby harbour.
Kully said: “We’re inviting audiences to join us in locations across Wales and take a moment to walk in others’ shoes, be they Indian women or migrants from all over the world, NHS staff or patients past and present. All of these people, from all walks of life, and from Mumbai to Tenby, have extraordinary stories to tell.”
The Tide Whisperer is full of stories, forever a nomad, having travelled the oceans and been carried by the tide to fresh new shores.
On the shores of Tenby, the audience gathers. The tide is turning fast and a storm is coming. The future feels uncertain - humanity is on the move and seeking refuge. Will we be met by kindness or rejection; offered sanctuary or forced to survive the perilous, treacherous sea?
Audiences will travel from the harbour in Tenby, and explore the Pembrokeshire coast, by boat.
