With the summer months ahead of us, cadets have been very active in attending boating courses and renewing skills or gaining new ones. They have also attended other training leading to promotion or other skills. The unit has also conducted its annual inspection.

A district boating weekend, held at Milford Haven unit, was attended by four Tenby cadets, and three gained their kayaking one star qualifications and one his RYA level two windsurfing. A group of cadets also spent a day with Milford unit learning new skills, windsurfing and sailing, although no qualifications were gained, a great day was had by all. When they returned to Tenby unit, they enjoyed a fish and chip supper.

Sally James travelled to Sennybridge for a weekend of full bore shooting on the range. She went prepared for all types of weather and for once the range was kind to all the West Wales cadets and sun block was the order of the day. She is now able to wear the full bore shooting badge.

The last few weeks has seen James Crowney-Richards attend an advance peer educator course, assistant rowing instructors course and a promotional course. He has now been promoted to Cadet Petty Officer, the highest level for a Sea Cadet and was proudly seen wearing all his gold badges at the recent unit inspection.

The unit’s annual unit review was undertaken by the West Wales district team this year and the cadets put on an excellent show. They undertook the ceremonial parts of unit life and then showed the audience of parents, friends and supporters the skills they have acquired over the last year. The evening ended with some cadets being their award good conduct badges and a buffet in the sailing club.

The unit is very active in the community but in need of volunteers to run both the cadet side and to being on the committee, without your support the unit cannot offer a full range of activities to the young cadets. If you would like more details, please contact the unit on (01834) 849641.
