With the RNLI charity launching its Mayday fundraising campaign this month to raise funds to ensure volunteer crews can continue to save lives at sea - one such person who is taking up the challenge is Tenby youngster Samuel Fecci.

Seven-year-old Sam has decided to take part in the RNLI’s Mayday Mile - which runs throughout the month, where supporters are asked to cover at least one mile in any way they choose and raise vital funds to keep people safe on our coastline.

Usually, RNLI lifesavers answer mayday calls and go to rescue others - but with a busy summer on the way, they need your help, and playing a part in the Mayday Mile is a way to answer their call.

“I don’t have a garden so use the harbour as my playground and the RNLI Station and crew are part of the family in that area,” said Sam.

“I often see the lifeboat crew responding to their pagers and just the other day was meant to be having a photo taken with the harbour master when he had to dash off and respond to a swamped kayak.

“I am a member of Storm Force and hope to be on the crew one day - so if you could donate to the cause I would be very grateful,” added Sam, who was praised recently after playing his part in a clean-up of the harbour following a night of anti-social behaviour which left large shards of broken glass on the beach sands.
