Last Sunday, the Rotary Club of Tenby held the first of its two Summer Spectaculars.

The picturesque Tenby harbour was stunning. The sun shone and the tide was in by late afternoon. All those who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves, both adults and children.

The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Tony Brown at 4 pm.

However, prior to that Rotarians had to round up several ‘bulls’ which had apparently escaped from St. Catherine’s Island at low tide...but luckily they were caught just before they reached the china shop!

Younger visitors were delighted at the friendly nature of the ‘bulls’ who even posed for photographs with the children!

The first entertainment at the harbour was the young Seren Irish Dancers. They are a very well choreographed group, mainly girls ranging from four years old to mid-teens.

As he always does, Christian Westmacott performed with Seren. Christian has not long returned from the World Irish Dancing Championships where he came a very creditable third in the Under19s section.

Regular performer at Tenby harbour Fergie decided to have a day off and her place was taken by her equally talented daughter Chloe.

She managed to get all the children dancing and playing games. Her act culminated with a long conga.

Next on stage was the very popular Matt the Magic Man. He baffled kids and their parents with his fabulous tricks and illusions. As usual, he finished with a very funny Punch and Judy Show.

First of the evening’s bands were the very tight three piece, Sleeping Dogs.

They played a variety of well known hits including requests from the growing audience.

Sleeping Dogs’ performance went down very well with everyone present.

Tough Love were the headline act last Sunday. They are a very popular rhythm and blues quartet with a female singer who provided a wonderful eclectic set.

Tenby Rotary’s first Summer Spectacular of 2019 concluded with another magnificent grand firework display which was thoroughly appreciated by all those who watched, down on the harbour or along Bridge Street and Crackwell Street in particular.

Rotary Club of Tenby’s next Summer Spectacular is on Sunday, August 11. This will hopefully include a joint RNLI/Coastguard rescue exercise.
