Sir,
The society’s origins lie in the Friends of Tenby organisation which was set up to stimulate public interest in Tenby for both residents and visitors alike. The aim was to protect the elements and features that make Tenby special by promoting high standards of planning, preservation, development and architecture and it is this original aim that continues to shape the work of the society today.
Our forthcoming AGM is to be held on April 28 at 2 pm at Augustus Place and will be a chance to showcase the work of the society over the past 12 months.
Achievements include successful lobbying to re-instate the Tenby town bus service, albeit not quite as comprehensive as we had hoped, along with significant and ongoing works up at Allen’s View to ensure the area is safe and beautiful for all our visitors. We hope residents have been up to meet our newest additions courtesy of Dan Badham. We are working on a rolling programme of renovation for all the ‘blue plaques’ in Tenby, as well as a comprehensive Characterisation Study covering the nuts and bolts details (location and state of repair of all the benches, lamp posts and signage for example), as well as the more aesthetic aspects of the various approaches to Tenby itself.
We also make regular submissions on all planning applications that come before Tenby Town Council - indeed our contributions are actively sought.
We are currently on a recruitment drive to increase the size of our small but dedicated committee. We have added two new members to the team over the past four years and would like to see this increase further to ensure the widest possible range of skills and viewpoints are considered.
Our new website was launched last summer and contains all our up-to-date information (such as meeting minutes and newsletters) as well as blog posts, photographs and notifications of upcoming trips and Allens View working parties, so please take a look at www.tenbycivicsociety.co.uk. You can also use the website to contact the committee.
If you are interested in finding out more about Tenby, then please do consider joining us and we look forward to meeting you at our upcoming AGM.
David Tudor Thomas,
Chairman,
Tenby Civic Society.
