When your mother reaches the wonderful age of 90, what original gift do you get her?
Richard Bedford came up trumps when he arranged the unusual idea of a quarter peal rung on the church bells in his mum’s honour.
Jean was invited up to Tenby’s St. Mary’s Church bell tower on Monday, December 23. After climbing the 47-step spiral staircase to the ringing chamber, she listened to the team ring 1,260 changes on the six bells for 45 minutes. The peal was an uninterrupted medley of three methods; 360 changes of Reverse Canterbury Doubles, 480 changes of Plain Bob Doubles and 420 changes of Grandsire Doubles.
Jean is well known to the ringers as she is a regular and valued member of the tower quiz team - The Clangers.
Three of the St. Mary’s band - Paula, Richard and Huw - rang the quarter peal along with Anne and Peter from Pembroke and Barbara from Carmarthen.
Hearty congratulations to Paula Robins on achieving her first quarter peal which has been documented in ‘The Ringing World’ magazine.
The ringers were on the following bells: 1. Paula Robins, 2. Barbara Fewster, 3. Anne Bunker, 4. Richard Bedford, 5. Peter Hayward (C), 6. Huw Bridges.
