Members of the Tenby, St. Florence, Pembroke and Narberth Shotokan Karate Clubs attended assessments with examiner Shihan Mike O'Brien, 8th dan of the Karate Union of Wales.

This followed a pre-assessment course held the previous month.

A large number of students were assessed, with a high pass rate, which reflects their hard work, commitment and the high standard expected of KUW clubs.

Grades from 9th kyu to 2nd dan were awarded. Congratulations to all!

The clubs practice Traditional Shotokan Karate and are part of the Karate Union of Wales which also has clubs in South and North Wales.

The KUW was the first independent Welsh Karate organisation established in 1982 by Mike O'Brien, 8th dan, who has been practising karate for over 45 years and is one of the most respected men in the sport throughout the UK.

He was the first Welshman to gain a 1st dan black belt in Shotokan and is responsible for the spread of Shotokan Karate throughout Wales.

The KUW is affiliated to the Welsh Karate Governing Body which is the only Sports Council for Wales recognised National Governing Body for Karate in Wales.

If you would like to try karate, why not go along to one of the clubs or contact them on the details below. No previous experience is required and classes are suitable for people of all fitness levels and are ideal for the whole family.

This is a great way to get fit while learning a martial art which improves self-confidence, self-discipline and self-defence.

The first class is free, so get out your tracksuit and come along. The summer is an ideal time to start!
