At this month’s meeting of the Tenby and District Lions Club, president Derek MacGarvie was very pleased to present another Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to a fellow Lion for all his hard work. This time it was to Lion Peter Roderick.
These awards are not given for years of service, but are given to those who have gone the extra mile for ‘dedicated humanitarian services’ to the community.
At the same meeting, Ray Harrison, the only current Charter member, was congratulated and presented with his 40 years service chevron, John Griffiths was awarded his 30-year chevron and Phil Belfield his 10-year chevron.
The same evening, the Tenby and District Lions presented a cheque for £1,000 to Elly’s Cancer Ward 10 Flag Appeal and £1,000 to the Wales Air Ambulance. These donations were made as part of their targets to celebrate Lions Clubs International Centennial Year. The first Lions club was set up by Melvin Jones in Chicago in June 1917.
