While most people were witnessing or taking part in the 2019 New Year’s Day Swim at Saundersfoot, a certain unnamed Teddy took up residence at Tesco Express offering customers the opportunity to win him and take him home if they could guess his name whilst contributing to 4 year old Eliza’s Scriven’s SDR Fund.
After two day’s of fundraising, Teddy’s name Steve was drawn by Tesco member of staff, Scott. The lucky winner, Steve Turner, had travelled with his family all the way from Leigh on Sea in Essex to enjoy the 2019 New Year’s Day Swim and was delighted to collect his furry friend admitting that he had never won a single competition in his life before.
Susan and Brian McKehon would like to thank Tesco Express Saundersfoot and all those who took part in raising funds for Eliza. Eliza was born prematurely and as a result of an infection suffered a brain injury which has left her with a diagnosis of Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. This mainly affects her legs, limiting her mobility and making everyday tasks more difficult. Eliza’s family are hoping she will be able to have a surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which will take away Eliza’s spasticity permanently but as SDR is not available to Welsh patients on the NHS, Eliza’s assessments, operation, post-operative care, vital therapy and equipment (the cost of which is estimated to be £60,000) will have to be self-funded. Just over £10,000 has currently been raised and if you would like to donate to help Eliza you can do so by visiting her Just Giving Page: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/eliza-sdr-journey.
