Pembroke 21C's - Pembroke Can Make a Difference (PCMAD) group are taking up the Climate Week Challenge at two events next month.

As part of national Climate Week, on the evening of Tuesday, March 4, from 7 pm in Foundry House on Pembroke Commons, the group will be inviting the community to do the one-hour Climate Week Challenge fortified by homemade pancakes.

The Climate Week Challenge is only revealed on the night of the event and participants will work in teams against the clock while they enjoy fresh pancakes made, of course, with local milk and eggs by local volunteers.

"It is a fun and sustainable way to encourage people to make a difference," said Rosey Mitchell, chair of PCMAD.

"More than 200,000 people take part in the challenge each year, it is the UK's biggest environmental competition. We are opening it up to the community of Pembroke to join in and make their mark," she added.

On the morning of March 8, the group will be planting fruit trees around The Parade Car Park.

The fruit trees will be planted around the car park with the permission of Pembrokeshire County Council officers and the help of local councillors.

"The aim is to provide extra trees to help pollinate those being planted in the community garden behind St. Oswald's House and other local gardens," said Adam Freeman, a member of PCMAD.

"However, it will also provide fresh fruit for the local community to pick in a few years time, so everybody wins."
