Representatives of SwimNarberth community pool have said a big thank you to those who helped save the facility, after being presented with a huge donation thanks to the Co-op’s charity scheme.

The Co-op runs a scheme whereby its members can choose to support a local charity.

Two years ago SwimNarberth community pool, requested to be a nominated charity which members could then choose to support over a period of two years.

“The process was very user friendly, we presented an application with our details and the Co-op then agreed for us to be a chosen charity,” explained ‘SwimNarberth’ volunteer Sally Fitzgerald.

“The two years has come to an end now and we are delighted to have been told that the fantastic sum of £6,347.98 has been raised!” continued Sally, who along with representatives of the pool was presented with a cheque at the Co-op in Kilgetty on Saturday.

“We are always trying to find ways to fundraise for the pool and have managed, firstly to save it from the threat of closure when Pembrokeshire County Council could no longer support it and then take on renovation of such a demanding scale.

“We certainly did not expect the Co-op Scheme to raise such a sum! So we’d like to say a huge thank you to all who supported us, and all those who nominated us. We really can’t thank them enough,” she continued.

Narberth pool provides a genuinely local community pool, run by local people for local people and visitors from further afield.

“We are always looking for volunteers, ideas for fundraising and welcome all ages and abilities to our lovely warm water and friendly staff.

“Whether an experienced swimmer, wanting to learn to swim, keep fit, or join one of our clubs, SwimNarberth staff are waiting to welcome you,” added Sally.
