A woman from Pembroke Dock who breached a conditional discharge sentence when she pleaded guilty this week to stealing groceries, has been placed under supervision for nine months as a further order.

District Judge Vivian Manning-Davies heard at Haverfordwest court, on Tuesday, how 23-year-old Elinor Jayne Page, of Queen Street, had stolen £41.39 of groceries from the Asda store in Pembroke Dock on Friday, February 10.

The prosecution explained that at around 6 pm, the store manager noticed Miss Page acting suspiciously when putting items into her basket, before spotting her on CCTV leaving the store without paying for the goods.

After the police were contacted and Miss Page was arrested, she said that she had realised that she didn't have any cash on her to pay for the items.

The duty solicitor representing Miss Page told the Judge that her life had taken a nasty steep spiral downturn over a period during which she had been drinking heavily and misusing prescription medication.

She received a conditional discharge back in December for three shoplifting offences and had subsequently lost her job as a secondary school learning support assistant since her drinking problems, which she had sought counselling for.

District Judge Manning-Davies said that it was sad to see Miss Page before the court again, given that she had been given a chance back in December, before placing a supervision period of nine months onto the conditional discharge and a rehabilitation order, where she would have to co-operate with the probation service.
