A spruce-up of Tenby’s Tyssul Court could be on the cards after councillors complained of its poor condition.

Tenby’s Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown recently flagged up a number of issues that needed addressing at the housing block on Park Road, which she said had a lot of elderly residents.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the clerk Andrew Davies told members that he’d had a response from Pembrokeshire County Council on the matter who said that works were in the offing to repair and reinstate a boundary wall that had collapsed, while PCC’s environmental services operations manager, Neil McCarthy, also said that the county council were happy to remove the shrubbery that residents had complained was blocking out light and replace with a grass area.

Mr. McCarthy also explained that the building was on a running five year upkeep programme, it wasn’t due to be power washed until 2021.

Responding to the proposals, Clr. Mrs Sue Lane said that if the residents were asking for the shrubs to go, then she would be happy to go propose that they be replaced by grass.

Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Brown recently told her fellow councillors why she felt Tyssul Court was in need of a desperate spruce-up.

“Tyssul Court is on a side of the town that tends to get ignored, on the way out of Tenby - but it’s a bit of a mess at the moment and the elderly residents that reside there, shouldn’t have to put up with it!” she remarked.

“The boundary wall has been knocked down and needs to be repaired. It was damaged over a month ago and nobody seems to have touched it.

“One of the elderly gents that lives in the flat next to it has had to out up with the wall falling against his part of the building. He’s slightly disabled and it’s frightening for him.

“The whole building is in need of a major tidy up and a good power wash. It’s disgusting down there.

“People in the ground floor flats are having to put their lights on in their rooms all day, because the plants, shrubs and grass are so overgrown that they are blocking the daylight out!” continued Clr. Mrs. Brown.

“We are letting the residents of Tyssul Court down. They are mostly elderly and it’s awful that they are having to put up with this and live like that,” she added.
