LADIES' SECTION
In a previous report, it was announced that on March 2 the Ladies' Section would commence the Spring eclectic with a GUW Medal competition. Unfortunately, with the second hole out of play due to drainage works, the flag competition, scheduled to be played the following week, was played instead.
The winner was Carole Blackwell with four shots remaining and the runner-up was Sharon Kaye after her drive on 18th.
The Medal competition was duly played on Wednesday, March 9, with the winner again being Carole Blackwell with 84 net and the runner-up Ros Williams with a better back nine than Geraldine Alderman (both with 86 net).
The ladies played their second round match in the Mail on Sunday at home against Tenby last Friday. The weather couldn't have been more different from the last match against Trefloyne, when it was horrendously wet and windy and our team won.
This time there was not a breath of wind, the course was dry and the sun was shining brightly. This obviously suited Tenby better and unfortunately our ladies went down by three matches to two.
Tenby thoroughly deserved to win, but we hope we gave them a good game. The score does not reflect the closeness of the individual matches.
After the match, both teams, with Tenby's caddies, had a nice, friendly chat over some lovely soup and sandwiches served by Janet, our caterer.
South Pembs. wishes Tenby ladies all the best in the next round of the competition.
Results: Sara Davies lost to Heather Morgan 5 and 3; Ros Williams beat Fair Ball 5 and 4; Carole Blackwell lost to Anita Davies 6 and 5; Ria Phillips lost to Linda Evans 4 and 3; Sharon Kaye beat Michelle Richards 6 and 5.
Following the lunch on Wednesday, March 9, captain, Mrs. Ria Phillips, presented Mrs. Peggy Humber with a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine and a birthday card for her 100th birthday this week, which Peggy and her famly were due to celebrate at the Celtic Manor Hotel.
Happy birthday, Peggy, from the girls!
Last year, the club was very lucky to obtain the services of Robert Ryder, well-known and highly respected golf professional and Dyfed County and Welsh staff coach. Ladies and gents taster golf sessions for beginners, followed by a series of lessons, resulted in several new players joining the club.
If you missed your opportunity to learn golf last year, it is not too late. A free ladies taster session will be held on Sunday, March 27, 10.30 am - 12 noon and for Gents on Sunday, April 3, again from 10.30 am - 12 noon (all weathers), equipment supplied. To book a place, telephone club secretary, Mr. Peter Fisher, 01646 621453.
