Discussions regarding ideas for Tenby’s South Parade, which include the possibility of illuminating the historic town walls, are set to take place at the end of the month.
Town councillors recently stated that they had been presented with a ‘blank canvas’ following on from the felling of the red horse chestnut trees along the South Parade due to the trees being diagnosed with a fungal infection, to determine what should be prioritised for that area of the town, and have been looking into revisiting a longstanding idea to light up the town walls.
A meeting has now been arranged with Pembrokeshire County Council representatives on Thursday, November 30, in Tenby, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, confirmed to members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night.
The Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that although the flower planters that had been placed along the South Parade, now looked awful, due to the storms wiping them out, they would have to wait until they discussed the matter with PCC, to determine if they could put temporary small trees in the tubs.
“Just to let you know, I know how bad the planters currently look, but there is a future plan,” said Clr. Mrs. Lane, who is also the chairman of Tenby in Bloom.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall said that ‘masterplan consultations’ for the town, did include looking at the landscaping of the South Parade.
“At this meeting, PCC want to also get a better idea of the town council’s ideas for the floodlighting of the walls to see what can be taken forward,” explained Mr. Davies.
